Nepal

KINOE supports projects in two areas of Nepal – the remote mountain kingdom of Lo Manthang and in the capital Kathmandu.

The story in Nepal is similar to that in India.  80% of children enrol in primary school, but less than half complete their primary education, and only about 20% stay on to take the school leaving certificate (equivalent to GCSE) after 10 years of education.  Only 50% of those taking the leaving certificate pass.  These are national averages, but children living in remote rural areas do much worse, as they face enormous financial and geographical challenges in accessing any kind of education.
