Earthquake appeal

Categories: News

As you all know, Nepal has recently been hit by two devastating earthquakes. The first on April 25th, 2015 measured 7.8 on the Richter scale and the second, just two weeks later on May 12th registered 7.3. The current death toll stands at 8,500 with an estimated 20,000 injured. Thousands more are sleeping outside as the monsoon season approaches, either because their houses were completely destroyed or because they are too scared of returning to their homes.

KINOE wanted to let you have an update on the children and their families who are supported and educated by our Nepalese projects.

At Lo Kunphen the staff and students are safe, but the school buildings have suffered damage.

Most of the Teach for Nepal team are safe. We are very sad to announce that one of the Fellows died in the earthquake. Thankfully her body was found quickly and returned to her family.

Many of the children have witnessed horrific scenes and will be traumatised for some time to come.

The girls in the ABC Transit home are sleeping outside in tents, but safe.

KINOE is launching an emergency fund to send to the children affected by the Earthquake. If you would like to contribute then please send your donation to KINOE marked KINOE – Earthquake. We will ensure all funds reach the communities and help the rebuild campaign for schools.
